Scholarship Program Overview
For over two decades, the Imperial Guard Alumnae have proudly awarded more than 300 scholarships, totaling more than $400K in support of students pursuing their educational goals. These meaningful gifts are made possible through the dedicated efforts of former “Guard Girls” and the generous support of friends, family, and the broader community. Each scholarship reflects the collective spirit of encouragement and belief in the power of education.
Applications are reviewed through a blind evaluation process conducted by a committee of former Guard members. In addition to academic records, applicants submit a short essay and are evaluated based on academic achievement, extracurricular involvement, service, leadership, and financial need. Scholarships are available for students pursuing vocational training or higher education (e.g., four-year program or community college) at any level.
To be eligible, applicants must either be current Waltrip High School students or have a recommendation from a Guard member, maintaining a strong connection to the Waltrip community. Both men and women are encouraged to apply. The number and amount of scholarships awarded each year vary depending on funds raised and organizational capacity.
In 2004, specific scholarships were named to honor the values long associated with the Guard:
- Sandra Lee Cole Scholarship for Leadership
- Nancy West Herbster Scholarship for Values and Tradition
- Debbie Sherrill Adams Scholarship for Service
- Donna Williford Schultz Scholarship for Courage
- Cindy Greene Reibenstein Scholarship for Spirit
While awards are not designated by category, each reflects the collective spirit of these values. Through this program, the legacy and ideals of the Imperial Guard continue to inspire and empower future generations.
Scholarship recipients have gone on to attend institutions such as Cornell University, Juilliard, University of Arkansas, Colorado State, Texas A&M, University of Texas, Baylor, Texas Tech, Texas Christian University, Trinity University, Franklin Pierce Law School, Texas A&M–Corpus Christi, Houston Community College, Blinn College, and the University of Houston.

Applicants must be CURRENT Waltrip HS seniors who intend to enroll in a college, university, or vocational school upon graduating in the spring.
