Debbie Adams ’62 was a true champion of students and her community, and a proud founding member of the Imperial Guard Alumnae. Following her passing in December 2022, the annual Scholarship Event was named in her honor — a lasting tribute to her spirit, legacy, and unwavering dedication to uplifting others.

2025 Event Overview
Mark your calendars and join the Imperial Guard Alumnae for our biggest fundraiser of the year and help raise scholarship funds in true Texas style, featuring honoree Mayor John Whitmire ’68.
We’re bringing in the hottest Houston Rodeo band, The Guzzlers, to rock the house with country hits and more. We’re talking an Italian dinner catered by Demeris, dessert, raffle baskets, lottery ticket draws, and one-of-a-kind live auction items you won’t want to miss. Dust off those boots and get ready for a night of fun, music, and giving back.
Scholarship funds are needed now more than ever. Last year alone, we awarded $22,000 to help students pursue their education—bringing our total to $300,000 in scholarships given. Many recipients are the first in their families to attend college. Thank you for your support—you’re truly making a difference!
The schedule for the night is as follows:
- 5:30 pm — Doors open; silent auction & raffle begin
- 6:00 pm — Music by The Guzlers begins
- 6:00 to 8:00 pm — Dinner catered by Demeris
- 7:30 pm — Live auction
- 9:00 pm — Raffle and silent auction winners announced

Past Event Spotlight
Surprise Luncheon for Nancy West Herbster
On December 13, 2014, Nancy West Herbster was surprised with a celebration at Junior League Houston, honoring her 50 years with the Guard. Expecting a simple Alumnae Board holiday gathering, she was instead greeted by over 40 Guard alumnae and friends. The event was filled with heartfelt and humorous tributes, lively conversation, and special gifts—including a custom helmet design featuring all 1,450 Guard member names (1960–1982), flowers, and a commemorative blanket. The celebration concluded with a group rendition of the “Guard Challenge Song.”
